HOW TO CLEAN YOUR MATTRESS: A MATTRESS CARE GUIDE BY CASPER
How to Clean Your Mattress and Make It LastWe spend at least a third of our lives in bed — and sometimes a third of our paycheck on the actual mattress. Yet we rarely set aside a couple minutes to maintain our investment.
Experts recommend replacing your mattress every 10 years, but if you want to make it last a decade, give it a little attention along the way. Something as small as spilled coffee or cookie crumbs can affect a mattress’s lifespan, so it’s important to clean up and take preventative measures, especially if you’re like us and take most of your meals lying down.
Here are some tips to keep any mattress (but especially a Casper!) feeling great for years.
#1: USE PROTECTIONUsing a waterproof mattress protector is a no-brainer to guard against dirt, spills, and normal wear and tear — so you can have breakfast in bed all the time and your mattress will still look and feel brand new. Casper’s product team developed a waterproof mattress protector that conforms through the sides and keeps it pristine. The best part? It won’t compromise the comfort of your bed.
#2: STAINS ON THE BRAINAre you clumsy but still love having a nightcap or glass of warm milk? For spills or bedtime accidents, it’s best to spot clean the cover of the affected area as quickly as possible. Using an enzyme-based cleaner will break down brand new blemishes, but won’t affect the performance of the mattress. To power through deep-set mystery blotches, a laundry brush paired with the cleaner will work wonders.
#3: SO FRESH, SO CLEANTo keep odors in check, air out the mattress by freeing it from the sheets and opening a few windows. For serious smell situations, consider sprinkling baking soda on the cover, then vacuuming it away before putting the sheets back on.
#4: DO IT OFTENReminder: you spend around twenty six years of your life in bed! Take the time to thoroughly clean your mattress and you won’t regret it. Try to give your mattress a full workup every time you flip or rotate it.
#5: A MATTRESS CAN TAKE A BATH TOOWhile we don’t recommend trying to wash it yourself, they are plenty of professionals out there who can get the job done. Not all mattresses can be cleaned the same way, so your best bet is to use a local mattress cleaning service (google it!) and schedule a convenient home visit.
CASPER TIP: The Casper’s zip-off cover makes it incredibly easy to spot clean and deodorize. Enzyme-based cleaners can be used on the foam itself to keep things fresh, but we still recommend entrusting professionals for a deep clean. Just make sure they know that Casper is a foam mattress.
Making Your Mattress LastAlong with regular cleaning, the right setup can make a huge impact in a bed’s lifespan. You’ll find that the type of support that sits under your mattress is just as important as the different layers of materials. We recommend using the Casper foundation and metal bed frame. For more information on the ideal setup, see this FAQ. Check out our guide below for a quick overview:
|TYPE||SUPPORT||FLIP OR ROTATE?|
|SPRING||Traditional Boxspring + Bed frame||Flip|
|FOAM||Modern Foundation + frame||Rotate|
|CASPER||Modern Foundation + frame or slatted base frame||Rotate|
CASPER TIP: The Casper should be rotated 180 degrees every 6 months for the sweetest of dreams. And you can clean it while you’re at it!
