How Do Casper Mattresses Ship?

How Do Casper Mattresses Ship

Casper mattresses are shipped in a box, delivered in compressed packaging, and quickly form into their full shape when unboxed. They ship for free in the contiguous United States, but you can upgrade for in-home setup and mattress removal.

Casper launched in 2014 and is now one of the leading bed-in-a-box companies. When you order a mattress online, you can count on fair prices, fast delivery, and no-fuss setup—a process much easier and simpler than the traditional experience of buying a mattress from a brick-and-mortar store.

But how do Casper mattresses ship? We'll answer this question in detail below, then go over prices, delivery options, unboxing, and what to expect at each step along the way.

Compression Process and Shipping Packaging

Casper mattresses are compressed with robust, industrial machines, then rolled into a vacuum-sealed bag and placed in boxes a fraction of the size of the mattress—yep, even the ones with innersprings and encased coils.

The compression process allows us to size down the packaging, making shipping easier and more economical, not to mention better for the environment.

Casper Mattress Box Dimensions and Weight

It varies, but the boxes are roughly the size of a mini-fridge. Depending on what mattress size and type of mattress you get (like all-foam or hybrid, which combines foam with pocketed coils), Casper mattress boxes weigh between 47 and 139 pounds.

Shipping Carrier and Delivery Windows

Casper ships mattresses through UPS standard ground shipping. Depending on where you live, what day you placed your order, and other factors like weather or holidays, your compressed mattress should arrive within two to eight business days. This is the only shipping speed available for mattress orders, so you won't be able to expedite your mattress delivery.

In-stock mattresses usually ship one to two business days after placing your order. Some models and sizes not currently in stock may note a "ship by" date, meaning your box will be shipped out on or before that date via UPS ground shipping.

Where Do Casper Mattresses Ship?

Casper mattresses ship to all 50 states, but we can't ship to U.S. territories like Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands. We’re also unable to deliver to PO boxes or APO boxes.

Is Shipping Free?

UPS ground shipping for Casper mattresses is free for addresses within the contiguous United States (excluding Hawaii and Alaska). You can still order a mattress from Casper if you live in Hawaii or Alaska, but you might have to pay additional shipping and processing fees.

Casper Delivery Options

Casper Delivery Options

Casper offers two main delivery options for mattresses: standard UPS and in-home delivery with setup.

Standard UPS Delivery

As mentioned, mattresses ship for free anywhere in the contiguous United States. After your order processes, you can expect to receive your bed-in-a-box within two to eight business days.

With this option, the compressed box will be delivered to your doorstep. Be prepared to bring it inside, haul it up any stairs you have, and place it in the bedroom where it'll be set up. You might want to recruit an extra set of hands for lifting and moving the box around.

In-Home Delivery and Setup Service

If you'd rather not do the heavy lifting, you can opt for professional in-home delivery and setup. Casper partners with RXO to offer this service, which is available for $249 at the time of this blog’s publish date.

Bear in mind, the delivery window is slightly longer for in-home delivery. It typically takes two to four weeks to receive your mattress—the same goes for other furniture items from Casper, like bed frames.

RXO will contact you to schedule your mattress delivery. You can also arrange to have your old mattress hauled away at the same time if you chose that option when you purchased the mattress.

The day before your scheduled mattress delivery, RXO will call you to confirm a four-hour delivery window. Make sure you're home during that time, and be ready to answer another call on the day of delivery within 30 minutes of their arrival.

The RXO delivery team will bring your Casper bed-in-a-box into your home, place it in your room of choice, unbox it, set it up on the bed frame, and haul away the packaging materials and your old mattress if needed.

Unboxing Your Casper Mattress

Unboxing Your Casper Mattress

If you go with standard UPS ground shipping, the unboxing and setup process is easy enough.

While the mattress is still in the box, bring it into the room where it'll be set up. Then open the box, pull out the compressed mattress, unroll it, place it on the bed frame with the top facing up in the proper orientation, and remove the plastic wrapping.

Once the plastic is removed, the mattress will expand and take shape within minutes. You can sleep on it that first night, but know it can sometimes take up to 72 hours to fully reach its size.

What to Keep in Mind When Buying a Casper Mattress

Here's what else to consider when ordering a mattress from Casper:

  • Heavy lifting – Casper's mattress boxes are much smaller than the actual mattress inside. But they're still notably heavy. As mentioned, you might need another person to help you lift and carry the box into your home and into the bedroom—especially if you're carrying it up or down a set of stairs, around awkward corners, or through a long hallway.
  • Unboxing timeframe – If you're moving, rearranging rooms in your home, or in the middle of a remodel, think about when you plan to unbox your mattress. You'll want to remove your Casper mattress from its compressed packaging within three months of receiving it. Storing it any longer than that could affect the structural integrity.
  • Once expanded, always expanded – Another thing to keep in mind is that once your mattress has expanded, it can't be compressed back into the box—it takes serious heavy machinery to compress our new mattresses down to size.
  • 100-night trial – Having said that, Casper offers a 100-night trial for mattresses. If, for any reason, you decide the mattress you purchased isn't going to work for you, you can get in touch with Casper to initiate a return within that 100-day window. In that case, a courier will be sent to your home to pack up and remove the mattress, and you'll get a full refund.
  • Upgrade program – Casper also has an upgrade program. If you're replacing an existing Casper mattress that you've owned for at least a year, you can get 10% off a new one (with approved models), plus a free bed pillow with your purchase.
  • Bed frame – Casper mattresses are meant to be placed on a firm, solid surface to ensure they have sufficient support. Platform beds, panel beds, foundation beds, adjustable bed frames, and even metal frames (with a proper foundation) can all work. If you're using a slatted frame, flat (not bowed) wooden slats are ideal. No need for a box spring; using one will void your warranty. Read more to explore the differences between slats vs a solid bed base in our blog.
