Some states require retailers to collect a fee for every mattress and box spring sold. This helps fund state-run recycling programs dedicated to repurposing valuable materials in mattresses and box springs for new products.

Fees apply to each item and can range from $18.00-$22.50

Participating states include: California, Connecticut, Oregon, and Rhode Island.
